Did Germans really believe that god was on their side? Did every side of that war believe that God was on their side? Doesn%26#039;t the bible say %26quot;If god is for me, who can be against me?%26quot; If god is always on the winner%26#039;s side, does that mean he favored the Vietnamese over the Americans?
Why did Hitler issue his Nazi solders with belt buckles that said %26quot;God is with us%26quot;?
The same can be said of GW Bush and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Abu Mazen, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Nabil Shaath, his Foreign Minister, in describing their first meeting with President Bush in June 2003, recount %26quot;President Bush said to all of us: %26#039;I%26#039;m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, %26#039;George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan...%26#039; and I did, and then God would tell me, %26#039;George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …%26#039; and I did.%26quot;
Jean d%26#039;Arc heard God tell her to liberate France from the tyranny of the English. Karl Lueger, mayor of Vienna from 1897-1910, a key hero of Hitler’s and phoneme for many of the present day landmarks in Vienna and Austria at large, felt it his God-given duty to destroy not only the Jews, but also the cultures of the non-German constituents of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (e.g. - the Hungarian component). The Prophet Mohammed believed God had instructed him to convert all to the newly founded faith of Islam or to eradicate them as unbelievers. Biblical Joshua destroyed entire civilizations at God’s command. Even John Calvin, icon of the Protestant Reformation, burned Michael Servetus at the stake, simply for espousing the belief that God did not send souls to hell without considering their merit. Right or wrong, people who believe God speaks to them are dangerous....
It brings to mind two quotes. One, by Theodore Beza in his prosecution and trial of the Anabaptists - %26quot;How oft that evil men hurt good men, the wicked men sin, and in the end they suffer just punishment, and yet by them, nevertheless, doth God chasten, instruct, and confirm his own; and by the manifest enemies of his Church doth God make glorious his Church%26quot;. The other, CJ Cherryh, which sums up the words of Beza - %26quot;God creates evil men as instruments of his vengeance%26quot;.
Reply:because in war all sides believe that god is on their side. i don%26#039;t think god would be on the side of anybody in war, why would a loving god want his creations to die and be maimed?? war is a manmade thing it is not from god and god does not endorse war.
Reply:It means that God has favored Indian casinos an innumerable amount of times in the past few decades (which almost makes up for him favoring us the centuries before..)
Reply:The same reason for the holocaust, the same reason the Official Church of the Reich was based on the teachings of protestant founder Martin Luther, the same reason the Vatican and protestants officially supported the Nazis, and so on.
The fact is that Germany was the most christian country in the world at the time, possibly ever (55% protestant, 40% catholic). Hitler himself was a fairly devout catholic but most of his beliefs were molded by Martin Luther (especially Luther%26#039;s book %26quot;Of the Jews and Their Lies%26quot;. The Nazis also believed that the Aryans were created by god, Adam and Eve, and the true blood and that all other races evolved from monkeys... Which is clearly silly.
The whole war could have been avoided if christianity didn%26#039;t exist.
Reply:propaganda does amazing things to simple minds

Reply:How could he favor the Vietcongs? These guys are atheist.
Reply:The reason he issued buckles was to hold their pants up. The reason he imbossed them with the words %26quot; Gott mit uns %26quot; was because he knew many were religious - - even if he wasn%26#039;t. But he sure was superstitious.
Reply:Boy, isnt that strange behavior for a guy accused of being an atheist?
Reply:well he sure as heck wasnt on the jew%26#039;s side.
Reply:hitler was a lunitic that favored that God was on his side when actually it was the wrong god. satan has a sense of humor too.
Reply:Isn%26#039;t it evident why the Nazi soldiers thought God was with them? They assumed it because of their ideology and success.
Also, not every side of the war believed God was on their side. The Russians were largely atheist and didn%26#039;t believe God was on their side.
The quote %26quot;If God is for me, who can be against me%26quot; applied to the Jewish people at that specific point in time. It doesn%26#039;t extend to anyone who simply makes that claim. Therefore it does not follow that God is always on the side of the winner.
Reply:as an individual not as a group...if i take 13 of my friends and we beat a old lady half to death and i walk off and say god is with us, doesnt mean he was, means i think that. this is a ridiculous question
Reply:Whose side are you on?
Reply:Its the same with the islamic fanatics thinking god is with them
Reply:What was really strange is that Hitler was once studying for the preisthood. He beleived Jews were cheats and liers and that they were murderers for killing Jesus. God dosen%26#039;t favor one side more than the other. Hitler used God%26#039;s name as propoganda, and besides, he lost the war so the belt buckles lost meaning didn%26#039;t they?
Reply:Because he either really believed God was with him, or he didn%26#039;t believe at all and just used that phrase to bolster his popularity with the masses.
Acourse he%26#039;s not the first psychopath tyrant to use God%26#039;s name for his own evil gains.
Not the last either: Pat Robertson, Dr. Laura, Dick Cheney, George Dubya Bush, Jerry Falwell, Fred Phelpe, Ralph Reed, ... the list would be as long as a football field.
Reply:Like EVERY other war, genocide and massacre, %26quot;god%26quot; is always behind it, it seems.
Reply:Because God can be a usefull tool for propaganda.
